ANDOVER, MA – April 21, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — Rebuilding or repairing a home after a disaster, like the recent March flooding, can be a daunting task. But with the right suggestions, homeowners can build back smarter and stronger.
Through April 29, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) mitigation specialists will be on-hand at Lowe’s Home Improvement Stores to provide information about low-cost ways to rebuild that can reduce the risk from future flood events and other potential hazards.
FEMA mitigation specialists will be available to answer rebuilding questions and provide informative publications in English and Spanish on the right way to deal with mold and mildew. Among other things, they will provide advice on elevating furnaces, circuit breaker boxes, water heaters and some appliances to reduce flood damage.
Risk-reduction specialists say that by following a few simple steps, homeowners can dramatically decrease their vulnerability to costly repetitive repairs. The best time to make cost-effective changes is when you are repairing current damages, the experts say.
Specialists will be at all centers from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.
