Construction Project Update Public Building Commission

WASHINGTON, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — The Public Building Commission of the Town of Scituate, Massachusetts will issue periodic public updates about the construction progress for the Town Library project. Groundbreaking occurred on September 1, 2015. The project remains on budget. Completion is anticipated for late 2016/early 2017.

Framing has been progressing on schedule. It is anticipated that all wood and steel framing will be complete by mid-June. Site work over the past few weeks has included removal of existing parking and walkway surfaces, installation of a new construction entrance to minimize tracking debris off-site, and installation of new signage to remind trucks of no idling restrictions. Underground plumbing and electrical work is underway. Once complete, the topping concrete will be poured on the lower level.

Masonry work is nearly finished on the fireplace chimney and requisite supporting walls. Installation of the air vapor barrier material throughout the structure will be completed by the end of May.

The Interior Design Committee has selected their recommendations for the building paint and carpet choices. Sample boards will be prepared and presented to the PBC for review and approval. Final selections will be displayed at the temporary library at 44 Jericho Road throughout the summer. Furniture selections for the Periodicals, Reading (Book Club) and Teen Rooms have been made and the library staff continues to work with Oudens Ello Architecture on remaining furniture selection.

The Signage Committee will be launching a public photography contest on July 1st. Images reflecting the natural beauty and spirit of the Scituate community will be solicited. Winning pictures will be incorporated into permanent signage throughout the new library. More information will be posted on www.scituatetownlibrary.org soon.
