Bustos Announces $200,000 in Funding for Homeless Veterans Across Central Illinois

WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 24, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) announced a $200,000 grant for Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois, Inc. in Peoria. The grant is awarded through the U.S. Department of Labor’s Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP). HVRP is the only federal program that focuses exclusively on employment of homeless veterans.

“Our brave military service members and their families have made tremendous sacrifices for us and we owe them our highest gratitude,” said Congresswoman Cheri Bustos. “That is why I’m pleased to announce this important investment that will help Central Illinois homeless veterans find jobs and get back on their own two feet.”

The grant funding will help homeless veterans in Central Illinois rejoin society and the labor force while providing effective services aimed at addressing the complex challenges that homeless veterans often confront. HVRP is awarding funds competitively to state and local workforce investment boards, local public agencies and nonprofit organizations, and tribal governments, including faith-based and community organizations. Homeless veterans may receive occupational, classroom and on-the-job training, as well as job search and placement assistance, including follow-up services.

Please contact Johanna Wagner with Goodwill Industries at 309-339-7326 for more information about today’s grant.
