Mayor Menino Announces $900,000 for Energy Improvements to Affordable Housing Developments

September 24, 2010 - (RealEstateRama) -- Mayor Thomas M. Menino announced that his Office of Environment and Energy Services and the Department of Neighborhood Development (DND) have partnered to make available $900,000 for energy performance improvements to affordable housing developments throughout Boston. The funds, which will be administered through the Renew Boston and Green Affordable Housing Program, are part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental and Energy Services’ $6.5 million award made in 2009 under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

The completed $28 million development, expected for the end of 2010, will yield a total of 118 units of housing, the majority of which will be available to low and moderate income households.

Latest HUD Grant Emphasizes Boston’s Continued Success of “Lead Safe Boston” Program. October 14, 2009 - (RealEstateRama) -- Mayor Menino today announced that the City will be awarded over $3M in federal Lead Based Paint Hazard Control funds to reduce the hazards of lead-based paint in homes located in the City’s low and moderate income neighborhoods. The award from the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) is the tenth competitive federal funding award that the City’s Lead Safe Boston program has received since 1993. The funding, totaling more than $30 million, has enabled Boston to provide lead abatement services to more than 2000 homes citywide.

Mayor Menino Celebrates Grand Opening of Dudley Village Homes

$20M Transformation Provides New Rental Housing for Families in Dorchester. August 10, 2009 - (RealEstateRama) -- Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Department of Neighborhood Development (DND) Director Evelyn Friedman today joined the Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation (DBEDC), the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative (DSNI), and community members to celebrate the grand opening of Dudley Village Homes in Dorchester. In total, the project brings 50 much-needed affordable rental units for low-income residents in the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative (DSNI) core area. Mayor Menino said this five-building $20 million transformation of Dudley Street was made possible in part by a DND contribution of more than $2 million, and is subject to a 99-year land lease agreement with DSNI.
