WASHINGTON, D.C. – April 4, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — The municipal building that houses the Uphams Corner Branch of the Boston Public Library at 500 Columbia Road in Dorchester will undergo building improvements in May. The building improvements necessitate a temporary closure of the branch while work takes place. The temporary closure period will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2013. Construction will begin on Tuesday, May 28, and is expected to be completed in September 2013.
There are a variety of improvements planned for the building in which the Uphams Corner Branch is located: new roof, downspouts, and gutters; repointing of the masonry; installation of new windows; rebuilding the exterior and interior stairs; and installation of a new heating system.
During the temporary closure period, Uphams Corner Branch users are encouraged to use the Grove Hall Branch, located at 41 Geneva Avenue in Dorchester; and the Dudley Branch, located at 65 Warren Street in Roxbury; as well as any of the Boston Public Library’s other locations throughout the city.
