WASHINGTON, D.C. – April 7, 2014 – (RealEstateRama) — Are there fairies and elves living in Franklin Park? While City officials will not speak on the record, the Boston Parks and Recreation Department appears to be hedging its bets by co-hosting a Fairy Home Building Workshop with the Franklin Park Coalition on Friday, April 25, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the enchanted Schoolmaster Hill portion of Franklin Park overlooking the rolling William Devine golf course.
With the advent of spring, a community of fairies and elves may or may not have settled – again, City officials aren’t saying – in Franklin Park’s historic 220-acre forest among the towering oak and pine trees. Although perfectly content to perch in animal burrows among the roots of trees and flit among the ancient puddingstone rocks, fairies and their brethren elves need special accommodations that recognize their connection to the earth with building materials from the woods around them.
Local children and families are invited to help the Parks Department and the Franklin Park Coalition lure the magical creatures by building homes for them in what may turn out to be the first settlement of fairies and elves in Boston’s storied history. This free family event will include a fairytale puppet show by Rosalita’s Puppets and festive storytelling. Children are encouraged to dress up in fairy and elf costumes to help welcome the newest inhabitants at Franklin Park. Natural materials will be provided, and children are welcome to explore nature and find their own natural elements to adorn their constructed homes.
The Franklin Park Coalition has issued a call to local artists and architects to help build fairy house models in weeks leading up to the event. The group will also be hosting a woodland walk on Saturday, April 19, at 10 a.m. to show the fairy community and help collect materials for their homes.
