ParkBoston is a City of Boston customer service enhancement that allows for parking meter payment by smart phone in keeping with Mayor Martin J. Walsh’s goal of using technology to improve basic city services. The initiative was developed and implemented by the Mayor’s Office of New Urban Mechanics and the Boston Transportation Department in partnership with Passport, an industry leader in mobile payments. ParkBoston was first introduced to Boston drivers in January of 2015 as a pilot program in the Back Bay. Due to the success of the pilot, an expansion was undertaken and completed in the fall of 2015 to ensure that payment via the ParkBoston app is accepted at all 8,000 City of Boston metered spaces.
ParkBoston was named “Favorite New Mobile Service” of the year on the BetaBoston List of Best Tech Products of 2015.
