Mayor Menino Invites Residents to Recycle Electronics and Safely Dispose of Household Hazardous Waste Tomorrow
Bostn, MA – October 11, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — Tomorrow, Mayor Thomas M. Menino and the City of Boston’s Waste Reduction Division will provide Boston residents a way to rid their homes of unwanted electronics, confidential documents, and hazardous waste in an environmentally safe manner.
“Boston residents have become increasingly concerned about not being wasteful and this is a great event to not only help them properly dispose of various electronic items but to further promote recycling as a necessity in every household,” said Mayor Menino.
Mayor Menino invites residents to dispose of items at the Bayside Expo parking lot at 200 Mt. Vernon St. in Dorchester between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Items that apply include:
- Computers, monitors, TVs LCD panels, printers and other computer related equipment;
- Stereos, cell phones, land line telephones, power strips, electronic games, VCRs and other household electronics.
Items that will not be accepted include: air conditioners, dehumidifiers, microwaves, and large appliances like washers, dryers, stoves and refrigerators.
At the same location, residents will also be able to shred up to 10 boxes of confidential papers in a large paper shredder truck. Shredding documents helps to prevent identify theft.
At the University of Massachusetts – Boston’s parking lot area D, residents can drop-off up to 50 pounds of their household hazardous waste including products labeled toxic, flammable, reactive, corrosive or poisonous such as, paint, motor oil pesticides solvents, glues weed killer, pool chemicals, car batteries, tires and propane tanks.
