Mayor Walsh Releases Quarterly Housing Report

Mayor Martin J. Walsh today announced that according to the City's quarterly housing report, Boston remains on target to meet the goal of creating 53,000 units of housing by 2030. This quarter, 565 new housing units were permitted, for a total of 17,183 units that have either been permitted or completed since the launch of the administration's housing plan, Housing a Changing City: Boston 2030, in October 2014.

TOWN OF SCITUATE LIBRARY BUILDING PROJECT

The Public Building Commission of the Town of Scituate, Massachusetts will issue periodic public updates about the construction progress for the Town Library project. Groundbreaking occurred on September 1, 2015. The project remains on budget. Completion is anticipated for late 2016/early 2017.

Mayor Walsh Announces Partnership With Verizon to Transform City’s Technology Infrastructure

Mayor Martin J. Walsh today announced a new partnership with Verizon to make Boston one of the most technologically advanced cities in the country by replacing its copper-based infrastructure with a state-of-the-art fiber-optic network platform across the city. The new network will offer enormous bandwidth and speeds. Through an investment of more than $300 million from Verizon over six years, this change will bring increased competition and choice for broadband and entertainment services in Boston, and support the ongoing efforts to spur innovation and economic opportunity in all neighborhoods.

Baker-Polito Administration Awards $31,300 in Housing Grants to Beverly and Sunderland

The Baker-Polito Administration announced a total of $31,300 in Planning Assistance Toward Housing (PATH) grant awards to Beverly and Sunderland, to help these communities meet their housing needs. Beverly and Sunderland join 17 communities across the Commonwealth that have received a PATH grant award since the program’s authorization in 2014.

Boston Housing Authority and Beacon Communities Development Partner for the Rehabilitation of Lenox/Camden Development

In partnership with the Boston Housing Authority, Beacon Communities Development LLC will lead the revitalization of Boston Housing Authority’s Lenox/Camden Apartments in Lower Roxbury. The Lenox/Camden family public housing development includes 285 units of federally subsidized housing in the Lenox portion of the site and 72-units in the adjacent state funded Camden portion of the site. Westminster, Mass. Company Settles with EPA for Claims of Clean Water Violations

A Massachusetts resins manufacturer has agreed to pay a $38,860 penalty to settle claims by the US Environmental Protection Agency that it violated federal clean water laws. EPA’s allegations involve an incident on Sept. 30, 2014 when employees of Advance Coatings Co. in Westminster, Mass. were routinely filling containers with Styrene, a chemical compound used in making resins.
