Boston Housing Authority awarded $2 Million from HUD and more than $1 Million from...
In an effort to help low-income residents find higher-paying jobs, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced a $2 million grant for the next four years to the Boston Housing Authority. BHA competed with 57 other applications across the nation to be one of nine agencies awarded a Jobs-Plus grant. The HUD funding comes with more than $1 million in matching funds through the City of Boston aimed at increasing education levels, job search and placement and financial literacy assistance for public housing residents.

City Receives $1M in HUD Funding Bonus to Create Permanent Housing for Homeless

Mayor Menino Announces an Additional $13M in Federal Foreclosure Funding
January 15, 2010 - (RealEstateRama) -- Mayor Thomas M. Menino today announced that the City’s Department of Neighborhood Development (DND) has been awarded $13.6 million in the second round of Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) funding to assist the City’s ongoing foreclosure prevention and reclamation efforts. Specifically, the competitively awarded funding will allow the City to support responsible redevelopment of up to 275 foreclosed homes in those neighborhoods most burdened by Boston’s bank-owned properties, namely Dorchester, East Boston, Roxbury, Hyde Park, and Mattapan.
Boston Receives $3M to Aid Lead Paint Abatement in Low-Income Homes
Latest HUD Grant Emphasizes Boston’s Continued Success of “Lead Safe Boston” Program. October 14, 2009 - (RealEstateRama) -- Mayor Menino today announced that the City will be awarded over $3M in federal Lead Based Paint Hazard Control funds to reduce the hazards of lead-based paint in homes located in the City’s low and moderate income neighborhoods. The award from the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) is the tenth competitive federal funding award that the City’s Lead Safe Boston program has received since 1993. The funding, totaling more than $30 million, has enabled Boston to provide lead abatement services to more than 2000 homes citywide.
Mayor Menino Announces $40 million for Renovations and Redevelopment of Public Housing
Recovery Act funding will provide “green”, energy efficient renovations for Old Colony, Cathedral, Heath and Amory public housing developments. Today, Mayor Thomas M. Menino announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has given the City of Boston $40 million through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The funding will go toward renovating several public housing developments in the Boston Housing Authority’s (BHA) portfolio using “green” technology to increase energy efficiency and decrease overall costs to the City of Boston. The $40 million worth of projects will create nearly 400 new jobs.
