Mayor Walsh Announces More Than $28M to Support Affordable Housing in Boston

Mayor Martin J. Walsh today announced $28 million in funding awards to support the creation of affordable housing throughout Boston.  The funding, which will preserve or produce 837 housing units, comes from $21 million of federal and local resources awarded through the Department of Neighborhood Development (DND) and $7 million of Linkage funds, awarded through Boston's Neighborhood Housing Trust.

Former Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretaries Offer Bipartisan Support for Governor Baker’s Hydropower Legislation

Governor Charlie Baker received bipartisan support from three former secretaries of Energy and Environmental Affairs, Maeve Vallely-Bartlett, Rick Sullivan, and Ian Bowles, for the administration’s efforts to diversify our state’s energy portfolio through the procurement of cost-effective, hydropower generation. The announcement followed a State House meeting between Governor Baker, current Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs Matthew Beaton and his predecessors to discuss the need to stabilize New England’s electricity rates, meet the Commonwealth’s Global Warming Solutions Act (GWSA) goals and provide ratepayers with a clean, cost-competitive alternative to coal and oil generation.

Thirteen Communities Awarded Grants Through the Massachusetts Downtown Initiative

Governor Charlie Baker and Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito announced thirteen awards from the Massachusetts Downtown Initiative to communities across the Commonwealth. Through the MDI Technical Assistance Program, these grants support local downtown revitalization efforts by connecting municipalities with high-impact consultant services. This year’s awards, totaling $130,000, are set aside from the Community Development Block Grant program every year, and are administered by the Department of Housing and Community Development.

TOWN OF SCITUATE LIBRARY BUILDING PROJECT

The Public Building Commission of the Town of Scituate, Massachusetts will issue periodic public updates about the construction progress for the Town Library project. Groundbreaking occurred on September 1, 2015. The project remains on budget. Completion is anticipated for late 2016/early 2017.
